the hotplate makes a fool of me
it growls like it shouldn't

it enrages me and I want to shake it but
it is too hot to touch
breaking it won’t help

why doesn’t it do what I want?
why do I take it personally?

this object has gained animate motivation, audacity to affront

my hotplate is a jerk 💥

Author’s note: My refrigerator used to make a similar noise which also drove me bonkers but it stopped once I started keeping more food stocked in there to avoid going out as often into the pandemic.
